Can I Really Heal Myself?
By Dr. George Bobbitt
Until I was introduced to chiropractic, I had never made health a top priority. Chiropractic is a form of health care that emphasizes self-healing by focusing on disorders of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems and the effects of these disorders on one’s health.
Chiropractic taught me that the body is designed to heal itself, and without health the quality of our lives suffer and diminish faster as we age. I am reminded of the saying, "If you don’t have your health, you have nothing."
After thousands of consultations and counseling events I am reminded of how many people and families have suffered because the quality of their health or loved one’s health has diminished. What hurts the most are the stories of how people just do not feel like doing anything with their spouse or children. The family gets pushed away. Little by little the children start asking, "Why doesn’t Mommy want to play with me?" or "Why doesn’t Daddy want to play with me?" The spouse often feels abandoned because the person they once knew has changed so much.
If you don’t have your health, even all the money in the world has very little value. In fact, if you don’t have your health, you don’t have much of anything.
Remember this. Health has three main components:
- Physical health
- Emotional health
- Spiritual health
Since the body was designed to heal itself, it may help to know a little about how the process works.
Physical self-healing – Unleashing the body’s self-healing abilities starts with good nutrition and supplementation, physical activity and positive lifestyle changes. The scientific literature tremendously supports and proves that diet and exercise are self-healing.
Emotional self-healing – Negative thoughts and feelings can cause pain and illness. However, these pains and illnesses can clear rapidly when you change those thoughts. Benefits from cleared negative thinking often include: relief from stress, deep relaxation, healing energy flow, increased and focused energy levels, prevention of injury, relief from sore aching muscles and joints, and enhanced confidence and well-being.
Spiritual self-healing – Deepening your spiritual roots through faith and other practices, or simply feeling close to nature has a tremendous effect on healing. Spiritually provides a comfort in times of illness so that the experience of the disease is better, which can promote healing. Your spirituality can support and strengthen your capacity for self-healing in ways that approach the miraculous.
Self-healing occurs when the physical, emotional, and the spiritual are aligned. Health is a combination of all three. The more we nurture and balance these areas every single day, the better our health and quality of life become.
Our bodies were created to live well and fight off disease provided we give our bodies what they need.
As a doctor of chiropractic, one of my most important jobs is to teach people how to keep themselves healthy and empower them to take responsibility for their well-being. Please recognize that you can reach full potential – in health, relationships, faith, and work and so forth if you could tap into and work toward achieving better health.
My desire is that you start making a positive effort toward healing. Not just for yourself, but also for those depending on you. How much better could your life, quality of life and family life be?
